Once Upon A Time

New Show Time!

This time we try out Once Upon A Time.  And it was pretty good.  Robert Carlyle was my main draw into this show.  That guy is the greatest and he sure didn’t disappoint as Rumpelstiltskin!  The idea of this story is that fairy tale characters are real and their world was cursed into because this picturesque town in Maine.  The Evil Queen takes all the happy endings away but dumping everyone into an ordinary life in Maine.  In the small town scenario the Evil Queen is the mayor of Storybrook.  Jimminy Cricket is the town shrink and snow white is a school teacher.  Rumpelstiltskin owns the town.  Anyway, Prince Charming and Snow White has a kid named Emma and they give her into a protective tree closet and she ends up in Boston.  Its prophized that she will return and restore everything.  She also has a kid that she gave up for adoption and the Evil Mayor adopts him.  The kid finds his birth mom with a stolen credit card and drags her up to Maine.  Evil Mayor is evil and doesn’t love her adopted son.  Emma realizes this and rents a room to stay for a week.

I’m really curious to see where this is going to go.  This could either be really great or really awful.  This, as a series opener goes, was the former.  I liked the flashing back and forth between real world and fairy world to show how things were going to unfold. I wasn’t too sure about how a 10 or so year old boy can get from ME to MA on a stolen credit card, but I’ll bite that no one stopped him or asked where his parents were or why he’s buying tickets with a credit card himself.  Also, how willing to drive to Maine is a person that doesn’t want to be found by her given up son?  Maine is far.  We aren’t talking an hour there and an hour back.  I would have just called the police and let them sort it out.  But I’m dead inside, so there’s that.

Overall, I’ll suspend my disbelief into the next episode and try to see more Robert Carlyle!

Cheers.

The Hunger Games

Holy Shit!!  New character posters are up for the Hunger Games!

http://io9.com/5854009/8-new-hunger-games-character-posters-show-off-lenny-kravitzs-crazy-futuristic-eyeliner/gallery/1

Let’s have a look!

Effie – She looks AMAZING.  Almost how I pictured her while reading.  I hope she has a reasonably quirky accent like I think she should.  🙂

Cinna – This is not how I pictured him, but I really love this casting.  And I haven’t liked Lenny Kravitz in like 10 years.  I think he’ll have that empathic demeanor and look in his eyes that I always thought was there.

Peeta – Still not on board with the bakery beefcake.  I just don’t like his face.  I’m sure I’ll be wrong about it.

Katniss – She looks perfect.  Every bit of youthful and bravery.  This is the best casting they’ve done.

Gale – Hottie flavor of the month.  I won’t lie, he’s hot.  I’m a cougar to that kid.  I don’t care. . .oops!  I got stuck thinking bad things about that dude.

Rue – I’m already going to cry.

Cato – Would have made a better Peeta.  Also, very hot.

Haymitch – I’m wrong!  This is THE BEST casting choice ever.  His look in the poster is a bananas!  I can’t even wait to see him fall down drunk and being a gross pest to Katniss.

That’s everyone for now.  I can’t wait to see the design team and Peeta’s design team!  I am crazy excited for this movie.  If you haven’t read the books yet, hurry up!  They are crazy awesome!

Cheers!

2 Broke Girls

I wasn’t going to watch this initially because it’s a sitcom and it does not take place in outer space or involve dinosaurs.  But, at the urging of a girlfriend, I checked it out.

She was 100% right!  This show is outstandingly funny!  Especially if you are familiar with being poor and the hipsters that loiter Williamsburg Brooklyn.

Now, because sitcoms don’t have any notable plots I won’t be reviewing it.  But I will pop up the best lines thus far (because I’m real late to the game…again!)

  • Max to customer: “I wear knit hats because it’s cold out. You wear knit hats because of Coldplay.”

  • Caroline on ex-boyfriend: “What’d you see in that guy anyway?”

Max: “He had those muscle thingies. . . . I don’t know what those are called but they make smart girls stupid.”

  • Max to Caroline: “Don’t smile. Because it raises the bar and then I have to smile, and I can’t be doing that. It’s exhausting and I have a bad back.”

Happy Watching!

Cheers

ps – this isn’t on demand with Fios for some reason.  I guess I’ll have to use an “alternative” method of watching…

Bad Movies

I was recently asked what terrible movies I watch in spite of the fact that they are terrible.  I had a lot of fun remembering these three movies!  And they are beyond bad.  Yet I still watch them like they are Oscar gold!  Check them out!

Balls of Fury  http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0424823/
This is truly terrible, but I can never not watch it!  I mean, Walken is in it!  And I have a thing for Dan Fogler.  hahaha.  Its also really funny if you can take dick jokes for an hour and a half.  I can!!  Its about ping pong, killers, and the FBI!  I hope I’ve sold you on this!  ❤

Class Act  http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0103978/
This is a little dated (1992) but I don’t know why I love it so much.  It is really terrible.  its about a twist on the changing places story, except totally extra cheesey.Starring Kid and Play.  😀  and Pauly Shore has a cameo.

If Looks Could Kill  http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0102095/
Another old one!  But they up the cheese factor with Richard Grieco!  He’s a student that gets mistaken for a secret agent!  A french student!  in France!  This might be my favorite movie on this list.

Happy Cheesey Movie Watching!!

Cheers!

Challange Progress #2

Week 2 progress – Studying is going pretty well.  I knocked it out on the reflexology tests with a B+.  normally that’s not that thrilling, but considering that everyone else practically bombed it, i’m happy.  Next week is the big neurology test.  Our professor postponed it because of a death in the family.  Savings is going pretty rough, but I managed to squirrel away $100.  And I have the change jar.  Which doesn’t sound overly savey, but its really big now.  I’m sure it will come in handy someday.  I’m failing at the wii thing.  It seems when time gets tight, its the first thing i drop from the schedule.  Maybe I should redesign my scheduling…Cleaning is going good.  I’ve done most of the living room and I just have to dust and do the windows.  Yikes!  I’m having movie guests on Friday, so that is always a huge motivator for me.  No need to let people actually see what a slob I am!

Horror Time

I am about to show my nieces (6 and 12) their first real horror movie! The original Night of the Living Dead!
There is nothing as awesome as original horror. And i’m so delighted to be showing a young generation these things. And that it was possible to make things without cgi or huge explosions. I really miss that kind of creativity.
Don’t get me wrong, I love stupid explosion movies with a high body count. I just wish they was still room in theater for both.
Also, on the same note, splatter and torture porn are not horror movies to me. They are gross, but not scary. Shove it Hostile.

NaNoWriMo

I just heard about this website:

www.nanowrimo.org

It means National Novel Writing Month.  You have to write a novel in one month that’s about 50,000 words or more.  This seems really challenging and fun.  I can’t wait to start my first one!

Cheers!
